TOP 10 SONGS THAT KEPT US GROOVY THIS YEAR|Top Ten Songs That Have Kept Us Grooving This Year!
They say music is life, but I like my version better: good music is good life.
To be honest, we've had a king-sized serving of good Nigerian music this year. Our artistes are literally on fire!
I saw a tweet the other day, about how Nigerian artistes aren't supposed to take long breaks in-between song releases, because before they drop their next song, there might be two or more newbies in the industry taking everyone by storm and I totally agree!
I love how, despite everything going on in Nigeria, our music industry is one sector that is flourishing against all odds.
In this article, I'll be taking you on a rundown of the top ten hit songs we've had so far this year. Happy reading!
10.
Baddest Boy (Remix) by Skiibii ft. Davido.
The number ten song is the amazing Baddest Boy tune by Skiibii that set the pace for good Nigerian music this year.
Released in January, Baddest Boy remix peaked at number one in over 11 countries. Some say the song's success is due to the O.B.O effect and we all know when Davido is on a song, it's automatically a hit, but we still have to give Skiibii his flowers because it's his song and he's also a talented artiste.
9.
Zazu Zeh by Portable ft. Olamide and Poco Lee.
This song is arguably one of the most popular street songs of the year 2022. It even came with its choreography.
Despite later 'misyarns' on social media, you just have to admit that Portable gave us a hit song. He features YBNL frontman Olamide and one of the most popular hypeman and dancer in Nigeria, Poco Lee on this track.
8.
Finesse By Pheelz ft. BNXN (f.k.a Buju).
This song is a vibe and more!
A snippet of the song went viral across social media before the official release of the full song.
Bnxn made a video singing the chorus and that was it! When the song was eventually released, it was like an 'old song' because everyone was already familiar with the lyrics.
Unarguably, Finesse is one of the biggest songs we've had this year.
7.
Calm Down By Rema.
This song is off Rema's debut album Rave and Roses. Rema is one new generation artiste that has not had any bad songs so far and this song is no exception.
6.
Girlfriend by Ruger.
Another new generation artiste that knows his stuff! This song is off Ruger's EP, The Second Wave Deluxe EP. The video was released a couple of weeks ago and it was a beautiful work shot and directed by the most sought after cinematographer in the music scene today, TG Omori.
5.
Certified Loner (No Competition) by Mayorkun.
Once you hear Mayorkun's name on a song, you know it's a hit. This song is Mayorkun's first official single for the year 2022. The music video was shot and directed by TG Omori.
4.
Buga by Kizz Daniel ft. Tekno.
Unarguably one of the biggest songs this year. This song is literally everywhere, you cannot go to an owanbe party without this song being played at least once, it's that popular.
And frankly, I'm not surprised at how big the song is. It's nothing short of what you get when you have two big hit makers on a song, in this case, Kizz Daniel and Alhaji Tekno.
3.
Sungba by Asake.
I'm not even going to lie, I had a hard time choosing between Sungba the original and Sungba the remix, because the two versions of the songs are hits!
Asake is simply a talented artiste. And to think that he's one of the newbies I talked about earlier: taking the industry by storm.
He has been on a roll this year and it doesn't look like he's slowing down anytime soon. We're here for it!
2.
Last Last by Burna Boy.
Grammy-award winning artiste, the Odogwu himself, came through with this hit song, Last Last. This song is off Burna Boy’s album, Love Damini.
One thing I love about Burna Boy’s music is that he doesn't conform to the usual Nigerian music standard. He is his own standard and his songs are largely relatable.
1.
Bandana by Fireboy ft. Asake.
The biggest song in the streets right now! The Fireboy and Asake combo is a match made in heaven. This song was number 1 on Apple 100 for weeks! Bandana is off Fireboy's album Playboy, the video was shot and directed by TG Omori.
That's the rundown of the top ten hit songs we've had so far this year.
From the list I compiled, you can see that our music this year is giving.
Shout-out to every artiste making good music, y'all are the real MVPs.
